Who we are

We are a charity dedicated to promoting Daoism through the study of Daoist philosophy and culture, supporting health, happiness, peace, and longevity. Our teaching includes Tai Chi, meditation, self-defence, breathing exercises, traditional Daoist massage, and principles of healthy living in harmony with nature, alongside the study of Dao and De for personal development.
With centres in the UK and Tenerife, we host visiting Daoist teachers and take part in annual cultural exchanges in China, sharing knowledge across our European network. With our connection to White Cloud Hall in Beijing, our hope is to establish Sea Cloud Hall as a permanent home in the West. We aim to cultivate new teachers and create lasting impact in local and international communities.
Desmond Murray, a practitioner for over 50 years, is the inheritor of the Lee Family Daoist system. The Lee Family system arrived in the UK 100 years ago and was passed down by Chan Kam Lee to Chee Soo, preserving an unbroken tradition of Daoist practice, teaching, and philosophy. Ren Farong, the former President of the China Daoist Society, invited Desmond Murray, President of the Daoist Association of Europe (DAE), to establish Sea Cloud Hall as a centre for Daoist practice in Europe.
Sea Cloud Hall has now been established in Tenerife and Leeds. The opening of the centres was supported by President of the DAE Mr Desmond Murray, Vice-president Ms Waiyii Yeung and Overseas Vice President of the DAE, Abbot Zhao Yuan Fu of White Cloud Temple.

Meet our Leaders

He currently serves as the Overseas President of the Weihai Martial Arts Association and Vice President of the Shandong Martial Arts Association. He has long been teaching Daoist culture and martial arts essence in Europe and globally.
He is the author of several books, including *Way In* and a widely acclaimed translation of the *Dao Te Ching*.

She founded Leeds’ first organic deli, Org Organics Leeds.
She currently teaches at Sea Cloud Hall and the University of Leeds, and is involved in international teaching exchanges in countries including France and Norway.
She is also a co-founder of Sea Cloud Hall, committed to preserving and developing Daoist culture and practice.

Master Zhao Yuanfu, the overseas vice-president of the Daoist Association of Europe, is the 19th generation successor of the Quanzhen Longmen School and a direct disciple of Li Yongde, the patriarch of the Longmen Quanzhen School.
He is a recognized inheritor of the Quanzhen Qingwei School of Tai Chi Chuan, Baguazhang, and Tai Chi Sword, and is also proficient in Longmen Daoist health preservation and internal alchemy. He has profound attainments in martial arts, fortune telling, feng shui, and calligraphy. He currently resides at Baiyun Temple in Beijing and has formally received the Daoist "Three Altars Ordination".
Master Zhao has long been deeply engaged in the study and practice of Daoist culture, and has achieved remarkable accomplishments, especially in health preservation, the Five Elements theory, Feng Shui, and martial arts. He has integrated the essence of traditional martial arts: the balance of softness and strength in Tai Chi, the continuous and rounded movements in Baguazhang, and the powerful and direct movements in Xingyiquan, vividly embodying the Daoist concept of "revealing the Dao through martial arts and demonstrating virtue through the Dao."
Baiyun Temple in Beijing is the highest Daoist temple of the Quanzhen School and the location of the China Daoist Association and the China Daoist Academy. It is the largest and most influential Daoist temple in the area, and many famous masters throughout history, such as Qiu Chuji, Zhang Sanfeng, and Wang Changyue, have practiced and taught here. Master Zhao Yuanfu of the Zhenwu Hall is one of the resident senior Daoist priests, inheriting and continuing this Daoist tradition that continues to this day.
